CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
HIP HOP - This class is where you learn the latest up beat dance steps to cutting edge music. Offered in beginning, intermediate and advanced. HOUSE - is a style of dance that is primarily danced to house music which arose in the early 1980's in clubs such as the Wharehouse in Chicago and the Loft and Paradise Garage in New York City. House dance is broken down into three major styles Jacking, Lofting, and Footwork. House dance takes from many different dance elements such as the Lindy era, African, Latin, Brazilian, Jazz, Tap, and even Modern. DIRTY "FUNKIN" DANCING - This class is a blend of exotic, erotic and very sexy moves combining funk and jazz. Ladies this class will put you in touch with your sensual and erotic selves. 18YEAR OLDS AND OVER. This is not a class for the underage!!!
AFRO LATINO - Free your body and soul with this class. It offers a cardio workout to the sensual rhythms of African and Latin music. Get ready to really work it! CARDIO LATIN GROOVE- a dance fitness class that includes arm and leg work combined with cardio latin dance that will make you sweat and will get your heart racing to the movements and the music. ZUMBA - fuses hypnotic latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. The routines feature intermittent training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest in the mix and you've got ZUMBA. TECHNIQUE INTENSIVE - these classes will warm you up like no other class and help you to do those single, double, or triple pirouettes and gran jete. All levels welcome to this class. Now on Saturdays too!!!
BALLET PROGRESSIVE - This is a new class which will feature a progressively more difficult class beginning with fundamental barre work then progressing to more difficult floor work and then choregraphy. Beginners will feel comfortable taking the barre and intermediates will appreciate the challenge of the floor work and choreography.
JAZZ - Our jazz classes incorporate many styles from Horton to Fosse. We have beginning to intermediate classes, three different instructor/choreographers with three completely different styles. You'll love them all! MODERN FUSION: A blend of dance styles including modern, jazz, latin, and african. CONTEMPORARY LYRICAL: Contemporary Lyrical is a class where dancers can let go in a creative and supportive atmosphere. It is about movement that is not very technical and making it your own. It's a class that focuses on individuality, just being you. PILATES - This class is based on Joseph Pilate's exclusive exercises with alot of stretching at the end. The main focus is not only to tone your core or center of your body, but also stretch those muscles to carry you through your daily activities. We also offer Pre & Post Natal Pilates upon request. Stay in shape while you are pregnant to shorten your "recovery" period after childbirth. If you are pregnant, please consult with your physician before taking the class. This class is also great for seniors because it is a gentle workout.
PILATES ON THE BALL - This class incorporates the exercises created by Joseph Pilates with the added challenge of doing them on an inflated ball. This technique will strengthen and maintain core stability while performing exercises using the ball. Not available at present. CARDIO FUNK - This hour class encompasses the total body workout, strength, flexibility and aeorbics with great music and hip dance moves. This class will make you feel like you have really worked out!
BODY SCULPT & CIRCUIT TRAINING - This class offers a variety of workout from a warm up on our tumble track to weight training to step aerobics to core conditioning. This workout has it all!
CORE CONDITIONING & STRETCH - is a class that builds core strength much like Pilates. It builds strength in muscles from the neck to the knees using bands, loops, and one's own body weight. It focuses on toning those areas of the body such as arms (triceps, especially in ladies), butt muscles to raise the butt, abs, quads, and hamstrings. There is also stretching before, during, and after class to elongate and warm up muscles being worked. Because of the pace of the class it can also be a good cardio workout. This class also teaches the student which exercises to do at home for their own personal fitness routine. Very challenging. YOGA - Kundalini Yoga includes the following components: centering, breath, strength and flexibility work, meditation and deep relaxation. Each Yoga class will be based on a set of exercises called a Kriya which is designed around a particular topic such as stress reduction, increased immune function, enhanced energy and circulation, and tons more! The class will be taught to all levels of ability with music to match the activities of the class. Kundalini Yoga was first brought to the United States from India in 1969 by Yogi Bajan. (Currently only taught at Huntington Hospital) CAPOEIRA ANGOLA - This is an Afro- Brazilian martial art,dance, and game performed to the sound of the musical bow known as the berimbau. Capoeira is perfect for those who want to develop a stronger base, increase flexibility and endurance, and engage in a workout that lifts the human spirit.
BELLY DANCE FUSION -Come and learn the ancient arts of Belly Dance with Sayaka Pereira! In this non-competitive, super friendly environment this class offers the fundamental belly dance techniques including isolations, undulations, layers, locks, pops, belly rolls, and of course, many kinds of shimmies (Shake Shake Shake)!!! Learn some “wow” moves like Shakira’s, add some spice to your own dance (great to fuse with many popular dance styles such as hip hop, jazz, salsa, and Latin dance), increase self-esteem, and shake your daily stresses away!!! Belly Dance has been proven to improve your health and fitness, especially in the abdominal area!!! Your belly will be happy to be more FIT with more CURVES!! Everyone (including men) is welcome. No previous dance experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing, feel free to show your belly. No shoes necessary, we are usually bare foot. Bring hip scarves or coin belts if you have one, to feel your hip movements. 6 week session October 2 - November 6, 2010
